Using Generic Flagyl? Here’s What You Need to Know

If you are prescribed to take generic Flagyl by your doctor or you may have used it in the past and need it again right away, you need to know the correct dosage that can effectively treat your ailment.  Make sure to take the right amount of generic Flagyl as directed by your doctor or as written in the medicine pamphlet.  Never take generic Flagyl in smaller or bigger amounts or for an extended period of time than what is recommended.  If you are going to use the generic Flagyl tablets, you must take it on an empty stomach at around 1 hour prior to or 2 hours after eating your meal. This way, the generic Flagyl can be fully absorbed by the body and its effect will not be interfered by the presence of food inside your stomach.

Don’t chew, crush or break the generic Flagyl tablets.  You must swallow it as a whole tablet.  Breaking the generic Flagyl tablets before you swallow it may cause too much of the active ingredient to be released instantly before it reaches your stomach, which would be a waste.  Take the generic Flagyl medicine for the full treatment course prescribed by your doctor or as indicated in the pamphlet.  Take note that with generic Flagyl, your signs and symptoms may already improve even if the infection is not totally cleared out in your system.  It is also not good to skip doses of generic Flagyl because it can also increase your chances of developing an infection that is highly resistant to antibiotic medicine.  Additionally, take note that generic Flagyl is a drug that can never be able to treat an infection of viral origin such as common colds or the flu.

In some patients, their blood and liver function may need to be tested regularly in order to make sure that generic Flagyl is not causing them to have adverse side effects on these factors.  Also, you need to know that generic Flagyl can cause odd results in some medical tests; therefore, you have to always inform any of your doctors who are currently treating you that you are, at the moment, taking some generic Flagyl.

In case you miss a dose of generic Flagyl, take one again as soon as you remember.  However, do not take one if it is nearly time for your next dose. Never take two at a time just to make up for your missed dose.  While it is not good to miss or skip a dose, it is even worse to overdose on generic Flagyl.  Signs and symptoms of overdosing on generic Flagyl include dizziness, vomiting, nausea, numbness, tingling, loss of balance, loss of coordination and/or seizure spells.

Do not take any alcohol while you are under generic Flagyl treatment.  You are allowed to drink alcohol 3 days after you are finished with your generic Flagyl regimen.  Some people may experience some side effects such as nausea, vomiting, tingling sensation, redness or warmth under the skin and quick heartbeats. If the side effects are at some point bothering you, then stop the medication temporarily and seek your doctor’s advice.
